Asia Pacific University Graduate School Basic Information
Graduate School Overview
Asia Pacific University Graduate School (APU) is a university that ranks in the top 4% of world university rankings (2024). While Japan has technical universities specializing in engineering and science, APU is a unique university that excels in IT and offers a curriculum distinct from other universities. It has an international campus with 60% of its students being international students.
Until 2019, APU had a partnership with Staffordshire University, a prestigious university in the UK, which was the first in the world to systematize IT (formerly referred to as computing) as an academic discipline. However, in order to aim for a top-tier university in the rapidly evolving world of IT, APU has dissolved its partnership with Staffordshire University, which lasted for more than 20 years, and is accelerating its evolution.
APU participates in various competitions every year and its students acquire high-level skills, especially in the field of IT, achieving excellent results not only in Malaysia but also in global competitions.
■ Main Campus
The new campus, which was significantly delayed in construction, partially opened in 2017. Construction is still ongoing, and it continues to expand.
■ APIIT Campus
In conjunction with the opening of the new campus, the original campus was renamed APIIT Campus.
The University Pathway English Program and the Faculty of Design are primarily offered at the APIIT Campus.
■ e-Sports Academy
In conjunction with the opening of the new campus, the e-Sports Academy, which allows students to systematically study e-sports, an area where APU excels in the field of IT and is the first to offer such a program in Malaysia, was established.
E-sports, short for Electronic Sports, refers to computer games played competitively by multiple players, and it has emerged as a new sports genre recognized by FIFA. There are over 55 million competitors worldwide, and the prize money in e-sports surpasses that of traditional high-prize money sports such as golf and tennis, solidifying its position as the highest-prize-money sport.
E-sports is being considered for inclusion in the Olympics.
Since classes are mainly held on weekends, it is possible to study e-sports in addition to one's major field of study.
