Asia Pacific University (APU: Asia Pacific University of Technology & Innovation)

Asia Pacific University Basic Information

University Overview

Asia Pacific University (APU: Asia Pacific University of Technology & Innovation) is a university ranked in the top 4% of world university rankings (as of 2024). While Japan has universities specializing in engineering and science, APU stands out as a unique university with a strong focus on IT, offering a distinctive course structure not found in other universities. With a campus that is home to 60% international students, it is an incredibly international environment.

Until 2019, APU partnered with Staffordshire University, a prestigious university in the UK that was the first in the world to systematize IT (then known as computers) as an academic discipline. APU learned a lot from Staffordshire University, but in order to aim for a top-level university in the rapidly evolving world of IT, APU terminated partnership with Staffordshire University, which had lasted for over 20 years, and are now accelerating our evolution.

For those considering transferring to Western universities, APU has partnerships with many renowned universities in the UK and Australia for second-year or third-year transfers.

APU participates in various competitions every year, and our students acquire high-level skills in the IT field, not only in Malaysia but also in international competitions.

■ Main Campus
The new campus, which was significantly delayed in construction, partially opened in 2017. Construction is still ongoing, and APU continues to expand.

■ APIIT Campus
Along with the opening of the new campus, the original campus was renamed the APIIT Campus. It mainly offers the University Preparatory Program in English and the Faculty of Design.

■ Esports Academy
With the opening of the new campus, the Esports Academy, which is the strength of Asia Pacific University in the IT field, was established as the first academy in Malaysia to systematically study esports.

Esports, short for Electronic Sports, is a new sports genre born as a competitive form of computer games played by multiple players. It has become a highly lucrative sport, surpassing golf and tennis, known for their high prize money, and is solidifying its position as the sport with the highest prize money.

Esports is being considered for inclusion as an official sport in the Olympics.

Since it is mainly held on weekends, it is possible to study esports alongside your major.
